How can you help?

Volunteering

RCHS is always in need of volunteers!  To find out more information about current volunteer opportunities, please contact us, rchshumane@yahoo.com.

Fostering

All areas of RCHS are in need of help, but especially foster care-givers.  We are in desperate need of additional foster homes to place our animals in until they are adopted.

RCHS covers all expenses for our foster animals, including veterinary care and food.  We can also help supply you with all of the essentials needed to care for your foster animal(s).  Becoming a foster home for RCHS will not cost you anything, unless you choose to purchase extra items for your foster dog or cat.  Fosters are required to take their animal(s) to veterinary appointments and adoption days as their schedule allows.  We also ask that you socialize the animal and provide very basic training.

Many people find fostering a very rewarding experience because they are taking a hands-on approach to helping homeless pets.  This is one of the most effective ways you can help animals have a second chance.

Before becoming a foster home, you must become a member of RCHS and be approved as a state-licensed foster home.  You must complete our foster home application and an RCHS member application.  A fee of $15 is required for membership (payable to RCHS) and a fee of $10 is required for the state foster home license (payable to the Kansas Animal Health Dept).  After completing all of these documents, please give to the volunteer you've been in contact with or mail to RCHS.  (Click here for contact info).  Be sure to include payment for all fees!

Become a member

We always welcome new members!  Becoming a member of RCHS means that you are officially a part of a very special group!  We meet regularly on the second Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS.  Visitors are always welcome; we love to meet other pet lovers, even those who have little time to volunteer. Come learn all about us and the exciting things in our future. Your membership fee or contribution is tax-deductible. Please help us help our animals.

Donations and Fundraising

We realize that many of you would like to help RCHS, but don’t have the time or desire to foster or volunteer.  RCHS relies solely on public donations to financially function.  Below are several ways that you can donate.

Add the Riley County Humane Society toolbar to Internet Explorer or Firefox.  Once you add the toolbar, each time you shop at one of the more than 1,300 participating stores, a percentage of what you spend will be donated to us at no extra cost to you!  You could even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals.  The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to us.  No registration is required!  Click this link to get the toolbar: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/riley-county-humane-society-rchs

Recycle your aluminum cans at Howie's Recycling.  Howie's has a bin labeled "Humane Society" at their recycling center.  They donate all the proceeds from the cans they receive in this bin to us!  They are located at 625 S. 10th Street.  Visit their website for more information: http://www.howiesrecycling.com/

Purchase dog toy products from the company, Helping Udders.  These are dog toys made from the rubber "inflations" used for automatic milking machines in dairies.  This company donates 10-50% of all sales to rescues and humane societies, just be sure and specify that you want the proceeds to go to the "Riley County Humane Society" when you check out.

Use GoodSearch.com - a Yahoo-powered search engine - for your next web search.  Every time you use GoodSearch, money is generated for RCHS!  Goodsearch donates 50% of their revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities selected by its users.  The pennies quickly add up!  For example, if 1,000 RCHS supporters searched just twice a day, we would receive an estimated $7,300 per year to help fund our program.  Also, GoodSearch can be used just as you would any search engine.  Again, it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get proven, high-quality results.  Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Riley County Humane Society as the charity you want to support. The more people who use this site, the more money we earn, so please spread the word.

Don't forget to shop online at www.igive.com. Select the Riley County Humane Society, and we will receive a percentage of your purchase price, without costing you a cent!http://humane.manhattanks.org/Mitch%20in%20Rita's%20bed.jpg

Check out the pet healthcare products offered by Oxyfresh. A portion of the cost will be donated to RCHS. Contact Amy Hanson AHanson@vet.k-state.edu for more details.

We are recycling printer cartridges for fundraising. If you would like a plastic envelope to mail your printer cartridges, contact us via email at rchshumane@yahoo.com Just put the cartridge in the envelop, seal it, and drop the envelope in any mailbox.

Howie's recycling at 10th & Ft. Riley Blvd. in Manhattan is taking aluminum cans for us. Please tell your friends, neighbors, and acquaintances to SAVE CANS! There is a box labeled RCHS at the recycling center for your donated cans.

Gambino's coupon cards are GREAT! The price is $10/card of coupons and Gambino's contributes a generous amount toward the care of our pets. It's $120 worth of pizza savings. Contact Brooke at: Brooke@GandARealEstate.com for coupon books.

Finally, donations of any amount are welcomed. Your contributions enable us to continue providing medical care for our foster pets and fund special animal welfare programs. We are very grateful for your support.
