Please Be Advised!
RCHS is NOT the City of Manhattan shelter.  We cannot take in strays and we do not have a physical location.  We are a separate, private organization with a network of foster homes.  However, we do work closely with the City Shelter to save as many lives as possible.  To view City Shelter contact info, please check out our "Links" page.

Welcome to the Riley County Humane Society
We are an all volunteer organization dedicated to the welfare of animals.  We are funded entirely by donations from caring individuals and businesses.  The RCHS is a private, non-profit, 501 (c)(3) charitable organization.  We receive NO funding from the government, United Way, or any national animal welfare organization.  Thanks to the devotion and unique talents of the volunteers and the assistance from our generous supporters, the RCHS is able to help animals and people in Riley County and the surrounding areas.

Did you know....?

The best way to contact us is by e-mail, rather than by phone.  We do have a main phone number, where you will be asked to leave a message, but we can respond much faster if you send us an e-mail: rchshumane@yahoo.com (inquiries about cats) or laceyd1105@yahoo.com (inquiries about dogs) or rchs_amy@yahoo.com (inquiries about rabbits, rats, or other exotics).

Christmas in July!

RCHS has a desperate need for:
New or gently used collars and leashes
New or gently used crates and kennels (especially large ones!)
Heartguard, Revolution, Frontline, Interceptor (All sizes!  Would you be willing to donate one month’s worth from your own pet’s supply?)

Foster Homes Urgently Needed!

We have an immediate need for both dog and cat foster homes.  Remember, we do not have a facility and rely on a network of foster homes to save lives.  RCHS pays for all of our foster animal's expenses, all we ask for is your time and love.

A Pet's Ten Commandments

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.  Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't
make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so. ALWAYS!
